{"id":9689,"date":"2018-09-07T12:29:53","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T09:29:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/?p=9689"},"modified":"2018-09-07T12:40:21","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T09:40:21","slug":"thoughts-from-a-new-grandfather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/thoughts-from-a-new-grandfather\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Become a Grandparent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently something life changing happened, I became a grandfather for the first time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our daughter Naomi gave birth to little\u00a0Philippa Jane Whitaker Suko on Sept 4th 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I know what you&#8217;re thinking,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Caleb, You look so old you must have hords of grandkids by now!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Looks can be deceiving, I&#8217;m only 41! Ok, maybe that is a bit old for some of you reading this, but for others you&#8217;re thinking,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;How did you manage to reach the coveted state of grandparenthoood so early in life?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1920\" Really, that&#8217;s an important first step that a lot of young people seem to be avoiding as long as possible today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Christina and I didn&#8217;t waste our time trying to build our careers or finish our schooling before having kids. No, we just figured kids were more important than all of that and God would somehow work it out, so we dove into the family life early in our marriage, and guess what? God did work it all out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We prayed for our kids, sometimes a lot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fourth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We told our kids that marriage is good and so is having kids. We told them that we would rather see them married to a God fearing person than to have a prestiges education or an amazing career path planned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finally<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I often told them how much I wanted to be a grandpa!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I need to come to the terms with the fact that I am getting to be an old guy but honestly that doesn&#8217;t bother me! God&#8217;s blessings in family, children, and now a grandchild are far greater than I ever imagined.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But don&#8217;t worry, I&#8217;m not planning on keeling over and dying soon, although it&#8217;s not beyond the realm of possibility and if the Lord wants to take me I&#8217;ll go joyfully into the presence of the One to whom I&#8217;ve given my life too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I need to do now is to be a grandfather of godly character\u00a0and pray for our little Philippa.
