{"id":2121,"date":"2013-01-17T20:27:17","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T18:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/?p=2121"},"modified":"2013-02-05T10:03:18","modified_gmt":"2013-02-05T08:03:18","slug":"deep-and-wide-creating-churches-for-the-unchurched-book-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/deep-and-wide-creating-churches-for-the-unchurched-book-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Deep and Wide: Creating Churches for the Unchurched -Book Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41mdc5a8IXL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>If you&#8217;re a church leader then you&#8217;ll certainly want to check this book out. \u00a0It&#8217;s not every day that the pastor of one of the biggest churches in America \u00a0pulls back the veil to both his relationship with his father and his church.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to read this because I am somewhat familiar with Andy Stanley&#8217;s ministry. \u00a0However, I picked it up not knowing exactly what to expect. \u00a0Andy starts off by giving some very personal history about how his church got started and why there was a rift in his relationship with his father.<\/p>\n<p>The core of the book is focused on why it&#8217;s important to build a church that unchurched people feel comfortable in and how it can be done. \u00a0Andy shares in detail from his personal experience in ministry. \u00a0The last few chapters are a resource to help church leaders\u00a0successfully\u00a0navigate their people through change.<\/p>\n<p>What impressed me most was the amount of intentional thought and planning that went into every aspect of Andy&#8217;s church. \u00a0You may or may not agree with how Andy&#8217;s church does ministry, but you can&#8217;t help but agree that everything they do is extremely well thought out.<\/p>\n<p>Mainly Andy talks about how they structure their morning services to maximize their opportunity to connect with guests and make them feel at home. \u00a0Some of his tactics may push the limits, like allowing unbelievers to serve in various ministries. \u00a0However, I found that reading through the book encouraged me to think more deeply about why and how we do things in our church.<\/p>\n<p>The book is written in conversational style and is specifically written with pastors and church leaders in mind.<\/p>\n<p>If you are in any kind of church leadership this book would be high on my list of\u00a0recommended\u00a0reading.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B007JJENWG\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=sukfam-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B007JJENWG\">Deep &amp;
