It&#8217;s a word that they just pick up on their own without any prodding from the parents. On the other hand the phrase &#8220;thank you&#8221; doesn&#8217;t come so naturally. It must be cultivated, worked on and repeated. Adam and Eve lived in the middle of a world full of gorgeous landscapes, intriguing animals, and extraordinary plant life.&nbsp; According to God it was &#8220;good\u201d!&nbsp; Then one day a lie convinced them otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>The lie put doubt into their minds and called God&#8217;s goodness into question. Adam and Eve began to doubt God\u2019s provision and believe that they deserved better.<\/p>\n<h4>What are we really saying about God when we are discontent?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>God is not providing for my needs<\/li>\n<li>God is not treating me fair<\/li>\n<li>God has impure motives and is holding something back from me<\/li>\n<li>I know what I need better than God knows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What are some causes of discontentment?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Forgetfulness&nbsp; &#8211; The children of Israel in the wilderness<\/li>\n<li>Jealousy &#8211;&nbsp; Joseph\u2019s brothers<\/li>\n<li>Pride&nbsp; &#8211; Miriam complaining about Moses\u2019 leadership<\/li>\n<li>Bitterness \u2013 Jonah after Nineveh repented<\/li>\n<li>Laziness \u2013 David and Bathsheba incident<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How can we change our discontentment into thanksgiving?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognize that discontentment is a sin<strong> 1 Thessalonians 5:18<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Make thanksgiving a regular practice <strong>Daniel 6:10<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Never ask God for anything without first thanking Him for something <strong>Philippians 4:6<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Learn to thank God through the practice of sacrificial giving <strong>Psalm 116:17<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Ask God to give you an attitude of gratefulness towards those around you <strong>Ephesians 5:18-20<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What does a thankful heart do?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Humbly recognizes God as the source of all good things<\/li>\n<li>Realizes that he doesn\u2019t deserve the grace he has been given<\/li>\n<li>Produces joy and contentment in the most difficult circumstances<\/li>\n<li>Comes to worship easily<\/li>\n<li>Perceives the needs of others before his own<\/li>\n<li>Is a pleasure for others to be around<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>I Thessalonians 5:18 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Questions: What do you do to cultivate and attitude of thanksgiving in your life?<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever noticed that one of the first words a child learns is &#8220;mine&#8221;?
