{"id":1042,"date":"2012-07-11T01:08:58","date_gmt":"2012-07-10T22:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/?p=1042"},"modified":"2013-02-13T08:28:32","modified_gmt":"2013-02-13T06:28:32","slug":"10-ways-you-might-be-breaking-the-3rd-commandment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/10-ways-you-might-be-breaking-the-3rd-commandment\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Ways You Might be Breaking the 3rd Commandment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><strong>Exodus 20:7 &#8220;You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.<\/strong><\/strong> It\u2019s the 3rd commandment and most people think it\u2019s a prohibition of uttering the Lord\u2019s name in a careless way. \u00a0We should use the Lord\u2019s name thoughtfully and respectfully, however I believe the 3rd commandment is far more significant that most of us realize. <strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong>You see to take the Lord\u2019s name means to become His follower, to call Him your God and worship Him alone. \u00a0Today we can do the same thing by calling ourselves \u201cchristians\u201d. <a href=\"http:\/\/69.89.31.195\/~sukofami\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1043\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/10-ways-you-might-be-breaking-the-3rd-commandment\/sony-dsc-36\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"640,361\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;18&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Picasa&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;NEX-3&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1340889198&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;18&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;3200&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.0004&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;SONY DSC&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"I Follow Jesus\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1043\" title=\"I Follow Jesus\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/69.89.31.195\/~sukofami\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336.jpg 640w, https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sukofamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/DSC09336-460x260.jpg 460w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a> I don\u2019t tell people I am a christian because I think the name sounds nice! \u00a0When I call myself a christian I stamp the name of God on my forehead and become a \u201cbearer\u201d of God\u2019s name. \u00a0I am not just a follower of Christ I am a representative of Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what the 3rd commandment is really all about: <strong>God wants all who say they worship him to act like they worship him! \u00a0God hates pretenders!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong> The facts on pretenders: <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their lives never completely match their talk<\/li>\n<li>Any good they obtain from pretending is short lived<\/li>\n<li>Eventually, they will stop pretending<\/li>\n<li>They are internally conflicted and often struggle with anger, guilt, depression, discontentment<\/li>\n<li>Some of the best pretenders are children from religious families<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><strong><\/strong><\/strong><strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong>I should know about the last fact, I grew up in a Christian home. \u00a0When you grow up in the church it is very easy to talk the talk, say all the right words, and do all the right things when people are watching. \u00a0People might even look at you and say, \u201cwow, what an example!\u201d Jesus Himself points out the problem of pretenders when he confronts the Pharisees and describes them as \u201cwhite washed tombs\u201d!<strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-align: center;\">Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outside, but inside they are full of dead men&#8217;s bones, and of all uncleanness.\u00a0Even so you also appear righteous to men outwardly, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.\u00a0\u00a0Mathew 23:27-28<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">10 ways you might be breaking the 3rd commandment <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">1. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is good yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You complain about<\/strong><\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">your spouse<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">your children<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">your income<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">the government<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">your job<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">your co-workers<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">etc\u2026<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">2. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is in control yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You tend to worry and fret about everyday things<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You are overprotective of your children or your health<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You are constantly wondering \u201cwhat if?\u201d and waiting for something bad to happen<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">3. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is merciful and patient yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You can\u2019t stand it when people around you don\u2019t do things properly<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You easily lose patience with your spouse or children for insignificant things<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You chew people out for mistakes that cause you inconvenience<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">4. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God\u2019s word is true yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Rarely read it and seldom if never seriously study it<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\"><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You would rather watch TV, listen to the radio or read the latest magazine then open a Bible<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is just and true yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You are willing to be dishonest if it will save you a little money<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You overlook your own faults while condemning others<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You show favoritism among your friends or between your children<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is holy yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">The movies, music and entertainment you choose don\u2019t reflect God\u2019s character<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">The only difference between you and an unbeliever is that you go to church on most Sundays<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is powerful and able to save yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Very few unbelieving friends even know you are a Christian<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">You are afraid to share your faith with your neighbors<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">When given the opportunity to tell someone about Christ you end up changing the subject because you feel like you\u2019re not ready yet.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God is forgiving yet\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Harbor grudges<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Cut off relationships with those who have hurt you<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Look for ways to get revenge on someone who humiliated you<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Claim God answers prayers yet&#8230; <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Spend only a few minutes a day in prayer<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Don\u2019t really expect God to do anything<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong id=\"internal-source-marker_0.44731924240477383\">Only seriously start praying as a last resort when something really bad happens<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10.
